My Methods

Part of the dog training we carry out is using our unique methods to help both you and your dog learn the life skills needed for everyday life. There is no one training method that is suitable for all dogs.
I work on the four quadrants of operant and classical - trainer talk!
The four quadrants is to teach in a way the dog totally understands what we mean, a great way of communication with our dogs.
I will focus on training how to improve your relationship, how to give a clear way to communicate with them and show you how to read dog’s body language.
I train the dog in front of me and have the ability to change methods to suit the dog and their learning capabilities, this gives me the confidence that the changes made will be long lasting.

Positive and Negative Reinforcement

Together with positive reinforcement, we need to understand the use of negative reinforcement – about using rules and boundaries, and how the dog knows what is a wrong thing to do, there is no point ignoring unwanted behaviour as the dog will not understand it is something you do not want them to do.

It is very important for any dog who lives in our home to have a set of rules. This will help you all as a family to get along better. Rules also address the issue of leadership, which the dog will understand better, all dogs need this leadership although each dog will differ with how much is needed.

With no leadership as guidance to them the dog will believe they need to take that leadership role if they do not see it in their owners, someone has to lead, take control, protect the others.

This is the true goal for balanced style dog training, it is not about dominance.

It is very important that a dog has a “correction” or to be told “NO” when doing something the family does not like and has overstepped the mark, without realising, dogs are just doing dog things, it is up to each owner to have their own boundaries as each of us have different things which are important. You must be fair at all times, people and dogs make mistakes, shouting and hitting your dog will never be needed.

Understanding Dog Behaviour

Every dog is different, just like humans, so I prefer to start with a phone chat well before our initial dog training session to get a better understanding of each clients’/owners’ needs and goals. Each dog will need their own style of obedience training so they understand what they are learning as each dog will learn at a different pace.

Our individualised dog training sessions are tailored to you and your canine best friend, taking into account your lifestyle along with specific needs each dog will have. This way helps you to reach your goals faster and makes it easier to maintain the results of improved dog obedience.
